At Russwood Park, the Memphis Chicks and Arizona Desert Storm were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd.

The Memphis Chicks could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Alex Watkins into a win. Instead, the Arizona Desert Storm prevailed, 7-3. Watkins threw 7.1 innings of 3-hit ball. Esteban Vega earned the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2.2 innings. His record is now 1-0.

Won-shik Im was 1 for 5 with a double. He scored 2 runs for Arizona. With one out and the game tied in the top of the eighth inning, Im, who led the AL in home runs with 49 in 2046, had a clutch at-bat. Facing Memphis hurler Matt Schille, he grounded out, driving in 1 run to give the Desert Storm a 4-3 lead.

"Good baseball players make you a smarter manager," said Arizona manager GM Fetty.

The loss puts Memphis at 1-1.
