|
In a low-scoring contest between the Kyiv Cossacks and the Sudbury Blueberry Bulldogs, 27-year old right-handed pitcher Gilberto Rivera proved to be the difference. The Kyiv right-hander earned props for his performance in the 3-1 Cossacks win. Rivera, the winner, moves to 1-0. He threw 7 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 3 and giving up 1 walk. The loss has the Blueberry Bulldogs at 0-2.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Rod Garcia? The Kyiv left fielder had a 2-run double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Cossacks on top, 3-0. For the game, Garcia had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"I'm just trying to make good contact," said Garcia, "one at-bat at a time."
