East Haddam pitcher Chris Newell had a large part in his team subduing the Dublin Porters, 3-1. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the right-hander. Newell, now 5-7, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 8, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. Jason Derrick recorded the save for East Haddam, his 22nd of the season.
Adam Haglund had a critical at-bat with two out in the bottom of the sixth for East Haddam. He came through with a run-scoring single to put East Haddam in front, 3-1.
"Chris pounded the strike zone and made good pitches when he needed to," said East Haddam manager Joe Jankowski.
East Haddam is now 39-48, Dublin 44-42.
