Dublin Ruins Terrific Game by Montorsi
|
Memphis and Dublin duked it out and the Chicks came out victorious.
Dublin center fielder Ciro Montorsi had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Montorsi went 3-3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once, even as Memphis beat the Porters, 7-5. Steve Kortum claimed the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. His record stands at 2-7. The save went to Alex Watkins, his 19th this season.
The result might have been different, had it not been for 25-year old left fielder Mike Hernandez. Hernandez had a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Chicks ahead, 6-5. For the game, Hernandez had 1 double and 2 singles in 4 at-bats.
"Trying isn't good enough in this league," said Hernandez. "You've got to get results."
Memphis now sports a record of 36-60.
