Brad Riddick, who finished 2nd in the AL in ERA with 3.17 in 2046, imposed his will on the Kings from the get-go. Relying mainly on his sinker, the left-hander spearheaded the 3-1 Detroit triumph. The win for the Pizzas raised their record to 18-15.

Dave Dearman aided the Detroit cause with a run-scoring walk in the bottom of the seventh. For the game, the second baseman drew 1 walk in 3 plate appearances.

"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Detroit manager Evan Compton. "It's usually not just one thing."
