The Detroit Pizzas picked up a win at Pizzas Ballpark, topping the Hanoi Dragon Warriors, 4-3. On the mound for Detroit was right-hander Phil Beard. He played a principal role in the triumph. In 6.2 innings, Beard surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 11 and walking 0. He allowed 2 runs. George Liston earned the save for Detroit, his 19th of the year.

The Dragon Warriors had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Pizzas going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 25-year old catcher Pat Falk came to the plate. Falk hit a 2-run double on a first pitch sinker from Hanoi hurler Nick Rennie. It was Falk's 4th double of the year.

"Throwing strikes was the main thing," Beard said.

The first-place Pizzas, at 67-42, lead the Alliance League Boneheads Division by 5 games.
