Detroit Pizzas starter Ed Pike hurled his team past the Portland Beavers, 7-2. By defeating Portland, the first-place Pizzas improved to 69-43.

The Beavers had little chance against Pike, who overpowered Portland hitters and struck out 10.

"We took advantage of our opportunities," Pike told the Detroit Bulletin. "It's as simple as that."
