The Long Beach Paradise were almost helpless in their 7-0 loss to the Oklahoma City Hooks and hurler Antonio Gonzales. Gonzales kept the Paradise confused all game, spinning a 3-hit shutout.

"Tip your hat to Gonzales," Long Beach manager David Saldana said in a postgame interview. "He kept us off balance all night."

The 18-year-old right-hander had 2 walks and 7 strikeouts in a strong performance.

"It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play," Gonzales said. "It was just one of those games that things went my way."

To date this season, Gonzales is 5-2 with 12 starts and an ERA of 4.22 with 64 strikeouts in 70.1 innings.
