Lansing pitcher Vicente Tejeda had a large part in his team subduing the Detroit Pizzas, 5-1. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the right-hander. The third-place Red Storm now sit at 45-69.

Eddie Chavez had a big bases-clearing double for the Red Storm in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Lansing leading 1-0 and the bases loaded, he got a slider from Brad Riddick, who finished 2nd in the AL in ERA with 3.17 last year, and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 28th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Red Storm ahead, 4-0.

"Some of the guys in here work hard, some of the guys just kind of fall out of bed and get it done. Whatever works I guess, we won this one," Chavez told the Lansing Daily.
