The Kyiv Cossacks topped the Yellowstone Super Volcano, 3-2, in Federation League action at Volcano Ballpark. The standout performance belonged to Kyiv pitcher and Palmar Arriba, Dominican Republic, native Juan Valer. The winning pitcher was Valer, now 8-4. He tossed 7.2 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 3. Kyiv is now 64-52, 5½ games up in the Federation League Knuckleheads Division.

A crucial at-bat came with the bases empty and no one out in the top of the eighth inning. That's when center fielder Mike Bitzer, who finished 2nd in the AL in wins above replacement with 6.7 in 2044, hit a triple. The Cossacks went on to win.

"All in all, I thought Juan pitched a fine game for us tonight," said Kyiv manager Salvador Rubio.
