Cifelli, Archies Too Much for Beavers
Both teams had their opportunities, but in the end, the St. Louis Archies got the win.

The St. Louis Archies defeated the Portland Beavers, 4-2, in part because of first baseman Brian Cifelli. Cifelli was 2-3 with 2 home runs and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice for the Archies. St. Louis, at 73-44, is 9½ games up in the Federation League Birdbrains Division.

With St. Louis leading 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Cifelli hit a fastball from Ray Barber for a 2-run home run. It was his 25th home run of the season and put the Archies ahead, 3-0.

Cifelli attributed the win to "a well-rounded effort by the whole team."
