Sugar Kings Absorb 6-2 Loss at Sportsman's Park
|
The Los Angeles Kings weathered a fine game by Havana first baseman Matt Freese to upend the Sugar Kings, 6-2, at Sportsman's Park. Freese was 1 for 1 with a home run and 2 walks. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Earl Alexander, the winner, improved to 7-11. He held the Sugar Kings to 2 runs on 3 hits over 5.1 innings, while striking out 4 and walking 3. Eric Barone converted his 20th save in 24 tries.
The Kings got a big hit from right fielder Zachery Lambert. Facing Havana pitcher Luis Lezama in the bottom of the fifth, Lambert pounded a 3-run home run to right. His 7th home run of the season put the Kings ahead, 5-1.
Said losing manager The Baron: "Give the Kings credit. They played a better game than we did."
The Kings, at 46-77, sit in last place in the Alliance League Dimwits Division.
