The Kyiv Cossacks picked up a win at Ballpark of East Haddam, dropping the East Haddam Hyenas, 3-1. Gilberto Rivera, who is tied for 7th in the FL with a 10.3 K/9 rate, was the difference-maker. Rivera, now 8-9, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 8, walking 3, and allowing 1 run. The Cossacks improved their record to 65-60 by beating East Haddam.
The Cossacks benefited from a costly error in the top of the seventh. With Noah Abitia at bat and Kyiv leading 2-1, the East Haddam miscue allowed Kyiv to plate 1 and take the lead, 3-1.
"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Abitia.
