The Buffalo Buffalo had to reckon with Detroit Pizzas hurler Phil Beard. Beard, who is tied for 9th in the AL in complete games with 1, overwhelmed the opposition in the 6-1 Pizzas triumph. The first-place Pizzas improved to 79-50.

With Detroit leading 2-1 in the top of the seventh, Jose Caravaggio hit a run-scoring single off Buffalo pitcher Danny Rutledge. It put the Pizzas ahead 3-1.

"I like our moxie," said Pizzas manager Evan Compton.
