The Arizona Desert Storm knocked off the Waikiki Wayfinders, 6-4, in Federation League action at Ballpark of Honolulu. Arizona pitcher and Villa Bisonó, Dominican Republic, native Mario Martinez had an outstanding performance. Martinez, now 9-10, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 6, walking 4, and allowing 1 run. Getting the save was Esteban Vega, his 7th.

Arizona used the timely hitting of Joe Gainey to capture the win. The shortstop socked a 2-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Desert Storm ahead, 3-0. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a big one.

"Mario was exceptional and he pitched with a purpose," said Arizona manager GM Fetty.

The second-place Desert Storm improved to 61-70.
