The Kyiv Cossacks picked up a win at Kyiv Grounds, downing the East Haddam Hyenas, 4-2. On the mound for Kyiv was right-hander Justin Madsen, who played a pivotal role in the win. Evan King, who finished 4th in the FL in saves with 31 in 2038, nailed down the save. With the win, Kyiv upped its record to 28-28.

Kelvin William had a big 2-run double for the Cossacks in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Kyiv leading 2-1 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a sinker from Adam D'Amonte, who finished 3rd in the FL in innings pitched with 217.1 last year, and swatted a double to right. It was his 25th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Cossacks ahead, 4-1.

"Justin was the difference maker. He was emotionally under control, had good stuff and makeup," said Kyiv manager Boris Lahutin.
