Round 1 Goes the Distance, LetterKenny Prevails
|
The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat were on full display tonight at Irish Stadium as the Round 1 stretched to the final game.
It was the LetterKenny Irish feeling the thrill of victory, with a 7-2 win over the Kinsale Fisherman, who were feeling the devastation of coming up short in their quest to make the Round 2.
"There's no way around it -- this sucks," said Kinsale manager Mike Cerullo. "Congratulations to LetterKenny, but I won't sugarcoat it, no one is happy about anything that transpired here tonight."
Instrumental in the 4-3 series win was third baseman Chris Sharp, who was named MVP. He hit .318 with a .464 on-base percentage. He had 3 home runs, drove in 5 RBI and scored 5 runs.
"We've got the most important stat of all and that's this final win -- that's the one that matters," he said.
The LetterKenny Irish will play against the Philadelphia Avalanche in the next round. Philadelphia won their series against the Rochester River Sharks 4 games to 2. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.
