Hyenas Pick Up 7-0 Win Against Portland
|
Chris Newell, who is tied for 9th in the FL in quality starts with 8, was terrific for the East Haddam Hyenas in his team's 7-0 triumph over the Portland Beavers. His performance earned Newell rave reviews. Newell, now 4-5, was the winner. In 5.2 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 7, walking 2, and allowing no runs. Arturo Hernandez earned the save, his 1st.
East Haddam used the hitting of Matt McCauley to pick up the win. The right fielder clubbed a solo home run in the top of the third inning to put the Hyenas on top, 2-0. For the game, McCauley had 1 home run and 2 singles in 5 at-bats.
"You need to show up when your number's called," said McCauley.
The last-place Hyenas have a record of 35-38.
