As the Buffalo Buffalo and Detroit Pizzas battled through extra innings, it was a rookie who made the difference.

Young Buffalo second baseman Esteban Vasquez, 23 led the way with a strong hitting performance in the 10-inning marathon. Vasquez was 3 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2 during the 7-6 Buffalo win over the Pizzas. The win gives the Buffalo a 2-1 lead in the best-of-5 Divisional Series.

Buffalo used the clutch hitting of Jeremy Whitby to capture the win. The left fielder drilled a 2-run double in the top of the tenth inning to give the Buffalo the lead, 6-4. For the game, Whitby had 1 single and 1 double in 6 at-bats.

"The game of baseball will test you," said Jim Punk42ae, the Buffalo skipper. "This one tested us."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Pizzas Ballpark in Detroit.
