St. Louis Takes 1-0 Series Lead with Walk-off Win
The St. Louis Archies combined strong pitching and timely hitting to take Game 1 of the World Series, 5-4, in a walk-off win over the Detroit Pizzas.

The Archies got a solid performance from starter Spencer Hay. The right-handed Hay threw 8.0 innings of 4-hit ball in the win, which gave the Archies a 1-0 lead to start the best-of-7 series.

The decisive blow was delivered by Brian Nadeau in the bottom of the ninth when he hit a solo home run off 29-year old right-handed pitcher Jorge Figueroa to win the game for St. Louis. The home crowd went nuts.

"Spencer was throwing free and easy," said St. Louis manager Terry Schneekloth.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Team2 Ballpark in San Diego.
