Archies Dominate, Sweep League Championship
|
Many baseball pundits expected a close series in the Federation League League Championship. It turned out quite a bit different.
The St. Louis Archies swept aside the Dublin Porters to advance to the World Series, winning the final game by a 10-8 score at Porters Ballpark.
The series MVP was center fielder Albert Salgado, who hit .500 with a .556 on-base percentage. He had 1 home runs, drove in 4 RBI and scored 5 runs.
"We expected this series to go right down to the wire, so to sweep is a bit of a surprise," he said. "But we'll take it."
The St. Louis Archies don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the Los Angeles Kings - Detroit Pizzas series. Detroit leads the series 2 games to 1. The World Series schedule will be announced after the League Championship finishes.
