The Arizona Desert Storm knocked off the Sudbury Blueberry Bulldogs, 5-3, at Desert Storm Stadium. Joe Gainey was a big reason Arizona won. The shortstop was 2-3 with a home run and a walk. Arizona reliever Greg McDowell snagged the win, upping his record to 6-3. Danny Dudley shouldered the loss. The victory gives Arizona a record of 42-38.

The game was at a stalemate until catcher Kvetoslav Novy came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Sudbury pitcher Danny Dudley, he hit a 0-2 fastball for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Arizona on top, 5-3.

In postgame comments, Gainey told the Arizona Daily: "Do people still doubt I give 100 percent?"
