Kalamazoo Snaps Tovar Streak at 21 Tuesday, May 12th , 2048 For once, it was the Long Island Ducks picking up the slack for Luis Tovar. The club's "offensive catalyst," as Long Island manager Sergio Aguirre has frequently called him, went uncharacteristically silent and saw his 21-game hitting streak snapped by the Kalamazoo Kings. Tovar was bailed out by the rest of the Ducks, however, who stopped the Kings, 8-7. The 19-year-old shortstop finished the day 0-for-3, and told reporters at the postgame press conference that "everybody did their job but me." "Not that it was a huge problem -- we still won the game," he said with a grin. "The streak was a good run though. I'll try to start another one tomorrow." Tovar currently has a .393 batting average with 33 hits, 0 homers, 13 RBIs, 20 runs scored and a .485 OBP. |
