Ashford Torches Better Mades for 5 Hits Thursday, July 28th , 2050 Matt Ashford of the Gumdrops was unstoppable in his team's 14-13 victory over the Grosse Pointe Better Mades at Gumdrops Grounds. He battered them for 5 hits in 6 at-bats. "Boy, I was on the mark today," said the Galveston center fielder after the game. "I could see the ball real well. It's a great feeling to do this. And besides, 5-for-6 won't hurt your batting average like 0-for-5 will." Matt Ashford singled in the 2nd, flied out in the 4th, singled in the 5th, singled in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
