Empire Pull Back to .500 With Win Over Cossacks
The New York Empire defeated the Kyiv Cossacks, 8-5, in Alliance League action at New York Grounds. New York pitcher Matt Robertson had a standout performance. In 7 innings, Robertson surrendered 9 hits, while striking out 10 and walking 0. He allowed 4 runs. Dan Ellerbee picked up the save for New York, his 13th of the year.

The Empire got an important contribution from center fielder Kenichi Kuwahara, who in the bottom of the third knocked a 2-0 fastball into left for a 2-run double. It was his 2nd double of the season and put the Empire ahead, 4-1.

"Got a lot of swings and misses today," said Robertson.

The victory gives New York a record of 29-29.
