Empire Rally For Late Win Over Pizzas
|
The New York Empire relied on the hitting of right fielder Felix Cantu to stop the Detroit Pizzas, 6-4. For the game, Cantu was 2 for 3 with a home run, a walk, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Dan Ellerbee earned the save for New York, his 19th. At 36-38, the Empire claim third place in the Alliance League Boneheads Division.
Cantu had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the eighth. On a first pitch cutter from Josh Cooper, he banged a 2-run home run to right-center, giving the Empire a 6-4 lead. It was the 17th home run of the year for Cantu.
"We're all about heart and hustle on this team. That's what wins ballgames," Cantu told the New York Bulletin.
