Zack Alvarez, who is tied for 10th in the AL with a 9.4 K/9 rate, pitched well, but the Havana Sugar Kings still fell short, losing, 4-2, to the Detroit Pizzas at Sugardome II. The win was credited to 29-year old right-handed pitcher Jorge Figueroa in relief. His record improves to 2-2. Zack Alvarez took the loss. With the loss, Havana sinks to 15-16.
Detroit used a timely hit from Jose Caravaggio to get the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Pizzas ahead, 3-2. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it made an impact.
"It's a good day to be a fan after a win like that," Caravaggio told the Detroit Herald.
