Knights Spill Empire, 4-2
|
Brooklyn rode a fine outing from starter Brian Collins to victory over the New York Empire at New York Grounds. The final score was 4-2. Collins, the winner, moves to 12-8. He threw 6.2 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 8 and giving up 1 walk. Ernie Woodard earned the save for Brooklyn, his 39th of the year.
Brooklyn used the timely hitting of Eric Dixon to capture the win. The designated hitter socked a 2-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Knights ahead, 4-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said New York skipper Jim tstols, "and it cost us."
The Knights raised their record to 94-52.
