Cossacks Score Late, Stun Red Storm, 7-4
|
Kyiv and Lansing duked it out and the Cossacks came out victorious.
The Kyiv Cossacks beat the Lansing Red Storm, 7-4, at Ballpark of Atlanta. Kyiv second baseman Noah Abitia had the hot bat. He went 4-5 with a triple and 2 doubles, while scoring 2 times. The winner was Kyiv reliever Zachery DeShields, now 4-7. The loser was Josh Lumb. Ricardo Moreno earned his 19th save in 20 chances.
The game was at a stalemate until right fielder Kyle Alcala came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Lansing pitcher Josh Lumb, he hit a 2-1 splitter for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Kyiv on top, 6-4.
"It doesn't matter if you're 10 games over .500 or 10 games under, it feels good to win," Abitia told the Kyiv Today.
The Cossacks, at 67-84, inhabit last place in the Federation League Knuckleheads Division.
