The Memphis Chicks got a sterling performance from pitcher Rich Montgomery, but the Lansing Red Storm still prevailed, 5-3. Montgomery threw 7.0 innings allowing 3 runs. The save was credited to Julio Martinez, his 26th. With the win, Lansing has a record of 78-75. Memphis falls to 73-80.

Lansing used the timely hitting of Felix Salinas to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Red Storm on top, 5-3. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.

In comments to the Lansing Bulletin, Salinas admitted he's been told to improve his work habits. "But," he said, "I know when to take it to another gear."
