The Detroit Pizzas besoiled an otherwise fine performance by Portland first baseman Danny Gutierrez by beating the Beavers, 6-4, at Pizzas Ballpark. Gutierrez was 2 for 4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Jose Bautista snagged the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits over 3.1 innings. He's now 3-3 on the season. The win gives Detroit a season record of 40-39.

The Pizzas got a big at-bat from center fielder Chris Adams. For the game, Adams was 1-5 with a double, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the third, with the bases loaded, he stroked a bases-clearing double. His 21st double of the season gave Detroit a 3-0 lead.

"Some wins are easy and some are difficult, but either way we come to the ballpark ready to work hard every day," Adams told the Detroit Herald.
