Zavala on Fire, Strikes out 17 Pizzas Thursday, October 3rd , 2041 Buffalo Buffalo starter Vinny Zavala brought his best stuff to The Greenhouse today against the Detroit Pizzas, striking out 17 batters in his club's 5-0 victory. In a strong performance, the 30-year-old Zavala gave up 4 hits in his 8.1 innings of work and issued 2 walks. "I felt good out there," he said after the game. "My fastball had a lot of life and my slider was sharp. It was giving hitters fits and working well for me." His record for the year is 16-9 in 30 starts and Zavala has a 2.75 ERA.
